As Floridians, we are fed up with the attacks on our children and the teachers who help to educate them. Right now, over 40% of all book bans across the country are happening in Florida! Overwhelmingly, book bans target books on race or racism or featuring characters of color, as well as books with LGBTQ+ characters. Books about social justice, family structures, acceptance, and healing after trauma are being permanently removed from our school libraries, and won’t be allowed back even if parents want their children to have access to these books or if student interest demands it.
